It has been while so I thought I had better do some catching up.
I never did get to that birthday party update for Mya. She had a great time celebrating with a group of family and friends at a local indoor play park. We had the whole place to ourselves and everyone seemed to have a fun time. It felt a lot less hectic than a setting like Chuck E Cheese where you’re one of many parties and it’s difficult to visit with your guests. You pay for that convenience but it was worth it in the end. Mya was crazy about the cupcakes. She ate 2!
In other Mya updates, she’s walking all over the place. It’s exciting to watch her explore her world and take advantage of this new independence. She and I went on a walk around the block the other day. It was fun to watch her wander aimlessly, walking in circles as she kept finding new items of interest. I love standing back and watching her. How proud I am to call her mine!
Mya is still a mellow gal but she’s not afraid to let me know when she’s unhappy. She’ll attempt to head dive out of my arms if she sees something she needs to have. She still thinks her brother Max is the coolest thing ever. Every morning she comes in with me to get him out of bed. Max covers his head with his pillow to avoid our wake up call. Mya climbs up into his bed and begins mauling him, reaching for his Mimi. You can imagine how well this goes over with Max. His favorite phrase of late is, “Shoo! Go ‘way, Mya!” Still, it’s fun for me to see them interacting as siblings.
Max is doing well. It amazes me to think how verbal he has become since last Fall. When he started at daycare in September I was worried at how far behind he seemed compared to the other children in his 2 year old class (he was barely 2). Now he speaks in complete sentences. He does have a few word substitutions that make me laugh. He calls sharks “sharps” and warns me to “hold on type!”
He has also become quite a book connoisseur. Curious George is a recent favorite. I came across a half-off sale at our local used book store so he has quite a selection to choose from at this point. When bedtime arrives, Alex and I carry him upstairs and he sits in our lap next to his bed for 3-4 books. Then it’s off to bed where he gets 2-3 more. We always wrap up with Goodnight Moon and Brown Bear, Brown Bear.
His favorite is still hanging out with daddy. I can say that with zero jealousy since it really is the cutest thing to see what a great bond he and Alex have. On Saturday mornings, Mya and I head out to the pool for swim lessons. Alex and Max take off in the truck to do “boy things”. They go to Best Buy to play the drum set, to the pet store to look at animals, to the golf store to hit balls, and perhaps Jamba Juice or lunch somewhere. I was absolutely flattered the other day when Max told me, “Mama, I want to go to the golf store with you.” You know you’re on his good list when he says that to you!
All in all things are going great. The kids are doing well and we’re enjoying life as a family. It feels like the weekends home with them end too soon but that’s a situation we’re looking to remedy within the next year or 2.
